This Argillite and Silver Haida Orca or Killer Whale and Shark Box sculpture is carved by Haida Artist Wayne Wilson (Chub). The beautiful and elegant Orca carving on the top has 16 teeth onlayed in mastodon ivory and two pieces of gold inlaid in the eyes .

The Shark / Dogfish Design is carved into the sterling silver. On the bottom, there are three Orcas carved as the feet of the box. This sculpture was carved and signed in 1982 and is in excellent condition.

The Dogfish or Shark Woman Symbol represents one of the most powerful and elusive supernatural beings of Haida mythology, a powerful shaman. The story of how she became a shaman of extraordinary power is now lost, but we know that her power came from the spirit of the Dogfish, of the Shark family.

The Orca or Killer Whale symbolizes family, romance, longevity, harmony, travel, community and protection. He is said to protect those who travel away from home, and to lead them back when the time comes. Orcas will often stay their whole life with the same pod and raise each calf with care.
